Best VPS Providers for Crypto Trading Bots

Here we take a look at the best VPS providers for crypto trading bots, ensuring your trading bot runs reliably with zero downtime.

Best VPS Providers for Crypto Trading Bots

Now that we have a growing library of tools and crypto trading bots that would be beneficial to run on a cloud server, I thought it would be a good idea to keep a list comparing different VPS providers for crypto trading bots. One of the unique aspects of running a crypto trading bot is that it will help create a profitable trading strategy that takes advantage of the fact that crypto markets never do sleep.

Something that is not really possible if your laptop keeps shutting down! Or if your home internet is just not very stable.

This list should enable you to make an educated choice for the best VPS host for your trading bot and all of your crypto clouding requirements. One thing to note is that all of our released tools and trading bots are not very hardware intensive, what they really need is reliability and stability, which means we can safely use a cheap VPS server that runs with Linux operating system.

Vultr ($5/mo)

  • User Friendly ★★★★☆
  • Pricing ★★★☆☆
  • Performance ★★★★☆
  • Documentation ★★★★☆
  • Features ★★★☆☆
  • Referral Program ✔️
  • Multiple Locations ✔️
  • Pay With Crypto ✔️*

Historically Vultr is aimed more at developers who will know exactly what they need and will be able to choose one of their many plans in seconds. However, they recently updated their control panel making their admin UI very modern and easy to navigate. Many of the features can now be accessed and used in just one click. This means you can deploy a server in just a few seconds and have it running your crypto trading bots in no time at all - which is perfect for beginners.

Along with their rich documentation section that has many guides and tutorials to follow, you should not get lost setting up your cloud server's environment.

If you are lucky they also have a basic plan (512 MB RAM) that starts at $2.50 per month, which would be still a great option to run quite a few trading bots, but these ones seem to always be sold out. Vultr also accepts Bitcoin as a payment method, though you have to pay one month by credit card or Paypal first. Just beware that their pricing plans can go up quickly if you decide you need more power.

DigitalOcean ($5/mo)

  • User Friendly ★★★★★
  • Pricing ★★★★☆
  • Performance ★★★★☆
  • Documentation ★★★★★
  • Features ★★★☆☆
  • Referral Program ✔️
  • Multiple Locations ✔️
  • Pay With Crypto ❌

DigitalOcean and their droplets are fast becoming one of the most used VPS hosts worldwide, mostly because they offer many one-click solutions for popular Apps such as Wordpress or Ghost. There is also a very active and large DigitalOcean developer community, which means you will find detailed tutorials and guides available for everything you want to do!

Their uptime is known to be 99,99% which means they are an extremely reliable VPS - perfect for tools we never want to see downtime. There are also multiple datacenters and locations to choose from.

DigitalOcean basic plan starts at $5 per month, and this does provide you with 1 GB RAM which will be more than enough to run multiple trading bots and tools. Also it is extremely easy to upgrade your server when needed, and their pricing scales very fairly.

AWS Light Sail ($3.50/mo)

  • User Friendly ★☆☆☆☆
  • Pricing ★★☆☆☆
  • Performance ★★★★★
  • Documentation ★★★☆☆
  • Features ★★★★★
  • Referral Program ❌
  • Multiple Locations ✔️
  • Pay With Crypto ❌

Performance wise Amazon Web Services are known to be extremely quick and reliable, AWS Light Sail is a choice for many huge projects which means Amazon are experts at providing high-end support and cover every single feature on the market. But if you are just starting out with your first VPS host and never set up a server before, then you may find their UI very complicated.

AWS's portfolio is filled with a huge array of services and features, but the ordering makes things seem overly complex as if they were trying to intentionally mislead clients.

They also have a pricing scheme that is just a bit difficult to understand, with monthly data transfer and disc space limits to take into consideration. That being said if location is important to you, AWS has a very vast choice of server selection for both Windows and Linux operating systems.

Google Cloud (Free*)

  • User Friendly ★★★☆☆
  • Pricing ★★☆☆☆
  • Performance ★★★★★
  • Documentation ★★☆☆☆
  • Features ★★★★★
  • Referral Program ❌
  • Multiple Locations ✔️
  • Pay With Crypto ❌

When you sign up Google Cloud will give you $300 credit to use over a period of 12 months, and if you only set up an f1-micro VPS configuration then this should pretty much give you a free cloud server you can use for crypto trading bots for a whole year. After that, Google will still let you use the f1-micro plan for free, but there is a set amount of free hours per month - so be sure to check your plan once your credit is up!

Much like AWS, you will find very high performance and a lot of datacenter locations to choose from. We wouldn't say their UI is as complicated as Amazon, but it is not as easy as Vultr or DigitalOcean.

Google Cloud Hosting does have datacenters pretty much everywhere, so you have a very big amount of locations to choose from!

Scaleway (€2.99/mo*)

  • User Friendly ★★★★☆
  • Pricing ★★★☆☆
  • Performance ★★★☆☆
  • Documentation ★★☆☆☆
  • Features ★★★★☆
  • Referral Program ❌
  • Multiple Locations ❌
  • Pay With Crypto ❌

Scaleway is known as one of the VPS providers with the most affordable monthly prices. And their cloud servers are very much made with developers in mind, focusing on as their name does suggest: scalability. Their admin UI is very easy to navigate and will let you add on extra resources when needed...

Atleast that is what I heard! Scaleway asked me to KYC, so I decided they were not the right VPS provider for me.

The other negatives are that there is two datacenters to choose from, but they are both located in Europe. And though the pricing plans look very friendly, there are a few too many horror stories floating around the internet about their billing department double or triple charging people.

Linode ($5/mo)

  • User Friendly ★★★☆☆
  • Pricing ★★★☆☆
  • Performance ★★★★☆
  • Documentation ★★★★☆
  • Features ★★★★☆
  • Referral Program ✔️
  • Multiple Locations ✔️
  • Pay With Crypto ❌

Linode is a great option if you are already quite technical when it comes to command line and setting up your server environment. Mostly because they have a custom command line interface that lets you set up everything you need without needing to use their admin UI. That being said their Linode Manager Interface is very accessible, it is a modern fully featured UI that is very informative. Much like Vultr or DigitalOcean you can set everything up in just one click.

No possibility to pay in crypto, but their pricing structure is very clear and you can even pay by the hour if you prefer. Their basic plan starts at $5 per month and will equip you with 1 GB RAM, more than enough to run all the trading bots you want!

Linode also has multiple datacenters across multiple continents, so finding a location that suits you will not be a problem either. And it is another VPS provider that really has great documentation and tutorials.

So, which one is the best overall?

I would recommend sticking with Vultr, DigitalOcean or Linode. All of them have very easy to follow admin panels, that should make sense even as a beginner - and if not they all have amazing documentation and tutorials to help you out. Of course, tutorials and guides work on any VPS, regardless of which provider you use!

Overall I would say: don't be afraid to set up your first cloud server! Most of these services all have free trials or free credit when you sign up. So if you feel like you made the wrong choice, then you can simply cancel your plan.

Also, if you have a VPS provider you would like to recommend, please reach out in the comments and share your experience. One thing I would be interested in would be adding more VPS hosts to our list that accept cryptocurrency as a payment option.

Happy cloud computing! Happy trading!
